Based in Newcastle with over 25 years of collective experience in residential and commercial property, the SHADE team are experienced and detail orientated Architects.

  • Joel Coleman

    FOUNDER

    Full Member & Medium Rise Accreditation of the Building Designers Association (BDA) • Joel Coleman – Accreditation No. 6363

    Joel is the founding director of Shade.

    Growing up and helping his dad build his dream home, it was here Joel developed a passion at a young age of creating great spaces from start to finish.

    Having more than 10 years’ worth of formal building design experience and coming from a building background, Joel set out to create the workplace he has always wanted to work at, one that provides a detail oriented, personalised and dedicated service to his clients in a wide range of business typologies.

    When he isn’t creating & designing, he can be found on his mountain bike, trying to stand up on a wave or practicing his golf swing.

  • Clint Stephenson

    BUILDING DESIGNER

    Clint is an established building designer who joined the Shade Design Team in 2021.

    With over 15 years industry experience, when it comes to design, Clint enjoys problem solving, exploring possibilities, and embracing the simple rather than the overly complex.

    His varied portfolio extends across the residential, multi-residential, and urban design spaces with previous role as a project lead coordinating designs from concept to completion across Newcastle and Central Coast regions. Clint was also part of the Design team that was shortlisted in the LMCC Dwell Design Competition in 2021.

    Clint likes to get his hands dirty on site, and after hours he’s recently been finishing off the final touches to his newly renovated family home. When he’s not running around the house with power tools, he’s usually exploring the wilderness with his wife and 3 daughters.

  • Jordan Hampton

    MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE
    (UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE MARCH 2021)

    Having more than 5 years of experience and a Bachelors and Masters of Architecture (University of Newcastle, 2021) under his belt, he has worked for both small and large firms on all stages of a project’s development, from initial concept meetings through to design and construction documentation.

    Working primarily in the world of design he utilises creative thinking and problem solving to produce functional, efficient, and captivating designs for any project typology. When he isn’t at work he can usually be found enjoying a nice beer or working off said beer with a run, or swim.

  • Tim Graham

    RAIA – NOMINATED ARCHITECT
    NSW Registered Architect 12385

    Tim completed his New South Wales Architects Registration in June of 2023. Tim is a Member of the Australian Institute of Architects 2023 and has a proven ability in all aspects of the project lifecycle, having successfully designed and delivered numerous complex and innovative projects.

    Tim embraces a collaborative design approach through his portfolio of projects, reinforcing the practice culture, he works thoroughly and precisely and through his experience has acquired comprehensive skills in the preparation of development applications, construction documentation and consultant coordination. Most recently, Tim has been working on large scale Mixed-use developments, His experience has proven valuable in preparing Class 2 regulated design documentation to meet NSW Government Legislation.

    When Tim isn’t at his desk designing, he enjoys taking the boat out fishing Lake Macquarie, Watching English football at outrageous times of the night and socialising with friends and family.  

  • Brady Ainsworth

    MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE
    (UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE MARCH 2021)

    Brady has recently joined the team at Shade.

    With almost a decade of experience and both a Bachelors and a Masters of Architecture, he has a wealth of experience in all aspects of project development.

    Brady has a strong interest in construction and how all things fit together, whether it’s a neat junction of different materials or just a slick set of Construction drawings, he loves the little details. He brings this same approach to his design process believing that the smallest touches can often make the largest impacts to spaces.

    In his spare time you can find Brady hitting home runs for the Camels or looking for his ball in some bushes somewhere on the golf course.
